Breadth Requirements for the Bachelor of Commerce

  1. Students will complete a breadth component of at least 75 points (six subjects) and up to 100 points (eight subjects).
  2. Normally students will take 25 points (two subjects) at each year level i.e.: two 100 level or first year subjects; two 200 level or second year subjects and two 300 level or third year subjects.

    This can be varied depending on how many points students wish to take in excess of the required 75 points.
  3. It is possible for one or two 37.5 point (three subject) sequence or cluster of breadth study to be taken. Students may also take all of their up to 100 points of breadth in one breadth discipline (e.g.: languages or music)
  4. Students must complete at least one 300 level breadth subject which will, in many cases, require prerequisite 100 and 200 level study.
  5.  Students pursuing accreditation in Actuarial Studies (defined as those students who successfully complete 300-312 Actuarial Modelling 1) are not required to complete at least 75 points of breadth study. However, they must take 75 points from outside the core program including two mathematics subjects, probability, statistics and two subjects from those designated as breadth study that are not mathematics or statistics.
  6. For students pursuing Accounting accreditation the subjects chosen for breadth must include three specified law subjects - Principles of Business Law, Corporate Law and Taxation Law.
