The Graduate Diploma (Advanced) in History and Philosophy of Science is an advanced and specialised course, involving an addition year of study at fourth year level. Students taking the Graduate Diploma (Advanced) in HPS will be expected to write a 15,000-word thesis, and take four coursework subjects. The two compulsory subjects offered in the Diploma will provide an overview of important contemporary developments in the fields of history and philosophy of science and the sociology of science and technology. Students also take a methodological subject and one elective subject.
Intended learning outcomes
Students who complete the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Advanced) in this area of specialisation should:
undertake the equivalent of an honours year of study in the discipline;
engage in advanced postgraduate study in history and philosophy of science; and
conduct original research leading to the presentation of an honours level thesis.
