This course provides an introduction to the design and delivery of language courses for specific purposes. (Examples of such courses are English for Academic Purposes, English for Business, languages in health care, and so on.) The course will introduce the theories of language, learning and context underlying the design of such courses, and will introduce current issues and debates in the area.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should have:
developed critical and analytic skills in the context of main debates in the field of teaching and researching languages for specific purposes;
engaged with the underlying theoretical issues implicit in these debates;
developed an understanding of the design and evaluation of LSP syllabuses and materials.
