This subject provides students with independent placements in music therapy as part of their capstone experience. Placements will be initiated by the student in most cases, and students will have the opportunity to establish novel music therapy programs informed by the latest theories and research about contemporary practices. Placements will be supervised by a local professional staff member as well as through the Clinical Training coordinator at the University. In Hospital or community settings, under the guidance of a registered music therapist, students will design a program in partnership with the local and university supervisor that is suitable to the context and will then provide the program, taking responsibility for sessions where appropriate and evaluating and measuring benefit of the intervention. Tutorials will develop therapeutic skills for practice and foster the development of an individual therapeutic style based that can be adapted for various client groups.
