This subject considers what constitutes sexual and reproductive health over the life course. It provides an overview of key sexual and reproductive health issues and considers the factors that enable or inhibit women and men’s reproductive and sexual health. The student will gain an understanding of the wider issues of sexual and reproductive health in our society and will understand the sexual and reproductive health needs of specific groups within the community (eg sexual health of adolescents). The subject will be offered via a standard classroom lecture format and will also be offered by distance education for those students unable to attend classes.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the subject students will be able to demonstrate:
- a sophisticated understanding of the sexual and reproductive health issues in Australia and internationally
- skills to independently reflect upon and analyse the barriers to optimum sexual and reproductive health
- an understanding of gender and its influence on sexual and reproductive health
Generic skills
At the end of this subject students are expected to have developed critical thinking and analytical skills, an ability to find, evaluate and use relevant information, written communication skills and problem solving skills.
