In this subject, students will undertake a research project based on a limited number of topics focusing on clinical teacher practice. Projects will involve either a literature review, or the analysis of existing secondary data. The focus of all topics will be on the use of research to inform and improve student learning. Throughout the term students will receive ongoing supervision from a member of academic staff through online workshops. The capstone project will culminate with students synthesizing the findings of their research in a report.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Carry out a small research-based project using pre-existing data and research literature
- Demonstrate an understanding of the ethical issues associated with practitioner research
- Analyse pre-existing data and synthesise findings
- Report research findings in written and verbal forms
- Use research findings to advance education theory and practice
Generic skills
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- Apply critical thinking skills
- Apply foundational research skills to address a research question
- Demonstrate planning and time management skills
- Undertake small-scale research independently
- Communicate research results clearly and persuasively.
