This subject attempts to develop an understanding of the range of contemporary management practices designed around manipulating grapevine capacity and fruit quality in order to optimize grower returns. Emphasis is also placed on understanding requirements for vineyard establishment and management within a sustainable environmental management framework.
Intended learning outcomes
After completion of this subject students should be able to;
use advanced analytical and field-based techniques to determine fruit composition;
formulate yield and quality management approaches to optimise grower returns;
measure aspects of soil and plant water, plant nutrition and weather to propose methods to manipulate grapevine capacity and fruit quality;
research and apply precision management techniques to site selection, vineyard establishment and vineyard management situations;
undertake vineyard risk assessments to formulate resultant action plans to operate vineyard enterprises within a sustainable environmental management framework.
