This subject provides PhD students in the creative arts disciplines at the VCA with the skills and tools needed to devise and conduct research. Through talks, seminars, workshops and group discussions students will engage with the key principles of research, academic rigour and writing and be able to relate them to artistic practices.
Students will be supported in defining their research questions, developing a conceptual research framework, drawing up a literature review/introductory map, designing a pragmatic action plan, identifying appropriate methodologies and taught the fundamentals of ethics processes and research integrity at the University of Melbourne. The outcome will be a structured set of written documents which will form the basis for confirmation of candidature.
