The terminology and process introduced in first semester will be applied to scene work, allowing students to apply their new understanding within and beyond the classroom. The emphasis will be on personal connection to the given circumstances of the character, to the text and with scene partners. Students will also be encouraged to apply these processes to their singing and dancing.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon completion of this subject students will:
- exhibit a working understanding of language and concepts central to the actor’s craft;
- exhibit a developing understanding that imagination, spontaneity and curiosity to develop a sense of play and exploration are essential in all facets of their learning;
- demonstrate a developing ability to apply text process to both spoken and sung work;
- demonstrate a developing ability to work with consistent internal and interpersonal connection;
- understand that full engagement of the self in the work and with others is the essential foundation upon which performance skills are built.
Generic skills
Upon completion of this subject students will:
• exhibit developing knowledge of the key basic components of music theatre performance;
• have the capacity to participate fully in collaborative learning and to confront unfamiliar problems.
• exhibit a developing capacity for self-reflection, analysis and critical thinking.
