This subject involves a study of an approved topic in the humanities and social sciences. Students who complete this subject successfully should have demonstrated a specialist understanding of the topic, contributed effectively to the work of the seminar, shown a capacity for an advanced level of analysis and familiarised themselves with the latest directions of research into that particular topic.

On successful completion of this subject, students will have:

Generic skills
At the completion of this subject, students should gain the following generic skills:
- enhanced written and oral communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion;
- a deepened understanding of issues of key concern to the topic; and
- an understanding of the relationship between the topic and a broad range of current issues in the humanities and social sciences.
