Students learn about professional orchestral auditions and are taken through the process of applying and preparing a preliminary/first round audition. Topics covered through the semester will include how to search for positions, preparation of application materials (e.g., cover letters, CVs, and other relevant documents), concerto performance for orchestral auditions, excerpt preparation, and live/recorded audition development.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Recall major works from which common audition excerpts have been extracted;
- Interpret musical works in ways that could suit a variety of performance situations;
- Understand and develop the mental and emotional capabilities necessary for consistent skill execution and positive performance experiences; and
- Develop the confidence necessary to perform under pressure in audition, recording, and performance settings.
