This subject introduces singers to areas of vocal pedagogy relevant to the voice teacher engaged in one-to-one tuition in a contemporary studio setting. These areas include: vocal anatomy and physiology, historical and comparative vocal pedagogy, principles of studio pedagogy, and pedagogical repertoire (both classical and contemporary).
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, the student should have:
- A working knowledge of vocal anatomy and physiology.
- A working knowledge of vocal resonance and registration.
- An awareness of historical and comparative vocal pedagogies.
- Experience in the teaching of foundational vocal techniques.
- A repertory of exercises, with an understanding of the function(s) of each.
- Self-reflexivity with regard to own teaching.
- Knowledge of standard voice classifications in both the Classical and Contemporary traditions.
