This subject builds on the student’s discovery of the interdependence of voice and body in Semester 1. The unit continues addressing idiosyncratic habits in order to further develop a functional, efficient and flexible body and voice. This subject will include a selection from the following: physical awareness of breath in the body, muscularity, resonance, active listening and kinaesthetic awareness. It will use, physical improvisation, dynamic imagery, mask work, clowning and rhythmical play to activate sensory perception. This unit is co-delivered to BFA Acting and BFA Theatre students.

Intended learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate skilful engagement of perception and imagination integrated with movement, action and speech
  • Embody an expanded range of physical and vocal skills in a variety of creative and performance contexts
  • Identify a personal working process including: physical and vocal warm-up etc.

Additional details

  • Practical Assessment - Studio Work: includes development, rehearsal, performance and evaluation of material (Includes 8 hours Taught Class Time, and 8 Hours Individual Preparation/Warm up per week) (4000 word equivalent). Weekly. 50%. (ILO1)
  • Practical Assessment - Individual Presentation (1600 word equivalent). Week 6. 20%. (ILO2)
  • Practical assessment - Assigned tasks in Group Presentations (2400 word equivalent). Week 12. 30%. (ILO3)
  • Hurdle requirements: Students must attend 80% of all scheduled classes and attempt all elements of assessment to be eligible for a pass in this subject
