As organisations become more sophisticated in how they seek to use analytics to inform business decision making, managers face several challenges in how to facilitate the creation of the best environment in which to deploy analytics. This subject equips students with the necessary insights to formulate an organisation’s vision and goals around the use of business analytics, along with specific tools to implement and manage the change processes required to achieve this. In addition, students will be exposed to frameworks that will support their abilities in managing complex analytics projects and teams of data scientists, as well as how to effectively communicate, through various modes, topics in business analytics with the range of stakeholders in an organisation.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Develop an organisation's vision, goals and ethical framework for how to use business analytics more effectively
- Identify what changes are needed within an organisation to achieve the vision and goals
- Drive change processes under the ethical framework that will facilitate the implementation of the vision and goals in an organisation
- Build and lead a team of data scientists that can support the organisation's vision and goals around business analytics usage
- Manage complex analytics projects and relevant stakeholders within an organisation
- Communicate effectively (through written, oral and visual channels) the role that business analytics can play when proposing new projects, influencing colleagues, and reporting data-based insights that inform managerial decision making
