Students will develop their skills as contributing members of a musical ensemble and apply their performance skills as ensemble players.
Instrumental and vocal students will participate in ensembles and performances as approved by the Faculty and designed in consultation with the subject coordinator.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- show technical development as ensemble musicians;
- participate with ability and self-confidence as a team member of a performing group;
- perform selected repertoire to concert standard;
- identify and exhibit specific knowledge of a range of ensemble repertoire; and
- exhibit an informed respect for the values and principles of ensemble performance.
Generic skills
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- demonstrate skills in cooperation, communication and negotiation that allow for effective working in teams;
- demonstrate the capacity for critical and independent thought and reflection;
- demonstrate skills in evaluative thinking, and in the application of theoretical criteria to practical outcomes;
- demonstrate analytical skills in the context of performance; and
- plan effectively to meet deadlines.

An audition is required for some ensembles and chamber music.

Assessment
Additional details
Assessment is on a Pass-Fail basis.
- Participation at rehearsals, and performance of a program of major works as approved by the coordinator; throughout the semester (100%).
Hurdle Requirements:
- At the beginning of the semester, students are required to submit a form via the LMS indicating their intended repertoire, personnel, and rehearsal and performance schedules.
- At the end of semester, students are required to submit a form via the LMS supplying details of repertoire, rehearsals and performances achieved during the semester.
- One week after the end of semester a DVD of at least 30 minutes of performance must be submitted to the MCM office.
- Failure to complete the forms and provide DVD evidence of performance/s will result in a Fail mark.
- 100% attendance is expected, less than 80% will result in a fail in the subject.
