On completion of this subject, students will be able to analyse short pieces using various methods of analysis, including linear analysis, and will have formed a critical perspective of the variety of analytical techniques available.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject students should be able to:
- apply advanced analytic methods to the analysis of tonal and atonal music
- evaluate a number of approaches to the analysis of western tonal classical music
- articulate ways of understanding the cultural context of, and ramifications for, the development of western music analysis
