Entry requirements

Diploma in Informatics

1. In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have:

• concurrent enrolment in a University of Melbourne undergraduate degree (see Note below); and
• a weighted average of at least 65% in their current study; and
• successfully completed a minimum of 50 points of University study including the core subject COMP10001 Foundations of Computing.

Meeting these requirements does not guarantee selection

2. In ranking applications, the Selection Committee will consider:

• prior academic performance.

3. The Selection Committee may seek further information to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Academic Board rules on the use of selection instruments.

4. Applicants will satisfy the University’s English language requirements for the Diploma by meeting the English Language requirements for the Bachelor degree in which they are enrolled concurrently.

Notes:

• entry to the Diploma excludes the following students: BSc students majoring in any of: Computing and Software Systems, Data Science or Informatics, or students in the B-DES majoring in Computing.
• students are permitted to enter the Diploma at the start of any semester before the completion of the companion undergraduate degree.
• students may cross-credit 50 points for Diploma subjects taken as part of the undergraduate degree.
• the mode of undertaking the diploma, either Fast Track or by addition of a full year to their degree will depend on each student’s particular circumstances (i.e. the overload policy requires a particular level of performance/achievement be attained for permission to overload).
• course advice need to be sought prior to applying for the Diploma.
• Diploma places cannot be deferred and you cannot be admitted in the Diploma if you are within the last 50 points of your undergraduate degree.
