Intended learning outcomes

Students who complete the Graduate Certificate in Journalism (Advanced) should:

demonstrate high level oral and written communication skills;
demonstrate high level expertise in researching, writing and editing their own work;
demonstrate an ability to apply research skills to investigate news stories;
demonstrate an advanced and practical understanding of how news stories are put together;
be equipped to critically reflect on writing challenges that journalists face across different media;
demonstrate the ability to reflect on professional issues and develop new and innovative forms of practice; and
demonstrate an ability to apply theoretical concepts to journalistic practice.

Students who complete the Graduate Certificate in Journalism (Advanced) should:

demonstrate capacities of informed critical reflection and practical reasoning;
have excellent communication skills across a range of media platforms;
be equipped with capacities of moral reasoning, and a capacity to exercise moral reasoning and social responsibility;
be equipped to critically investigate significant issues through independent research and investigation;
develop time management and planning skills through managing and organising workloads; and
develop capacities of effective teamwork through group activities.

Students who complete the Graduate Certificate in Journalism (Advanced) should:

demonstrate a practically grounded and theoretically informed understanding of the changing field of journalism practice;
develop excellent communication skills that align with the rapidly changing and dynamic field of journalism;
be equipped to undertake and produce journalism that is informed by excellent critical skills and an ability to engage with complex social issues and problems;
be able to understand, and exercise, their responsibility as a critical practitioner who has a duty to support informed and responsible citizenship; and
be equipped with capacities of informed ethical reasoning, and an understanding of their social responsibilities.
