This subject will take up questions of creativity, professional practice and critical theory as they relate to creative writing, with a view to students engaging with contemporary Australian and global writing culture and industry. Instead of lectures, students will attend weekly panels presented by leading writers and industry professionals. Each tutorial group will be built around a different practical, collaborative project rooted firmly in the world beyond university.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should have:
- an informed and critically discriminating understanding of complex contemporary theoretical and cultural issues related to creative writing;
- the ability to take the step from student-writer and engage in independent, creative and self-reflective professional development;
- the ability to apply, extend and refine skills acquired in their degree on a specific collaborative project;
- the ability to work constructively with peers in a self-directed collaborative project; and
- the ability to develop and complete all phases of self-initiated creative writing projects.
Generic skills
At the completion of this subject, students should gain the following generic skills:
- critical thinking and analysis;
- collaborative work with other students;
- creative thinking and development of ideas and projects;
- communicating thoughts and knowledge;
- written communication;
- time management and planning; and
- practices and ethics in the field of creative writing.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
This is a Capstone subject and only available to students in the Creative Writing major within the Bachelor of Arts or the Creative Writing specialisation of the Graduate Diploma in Arts. This subject is not available to students in the minor or as breadth.
Bachelor of Arts students are required to completed the Level One requirements for the major before enrolling into this subject.

Bachelor of Arts students are expected that have completed the Level Two requirements for the major and completing the final year of the degree.

- Subject notes
This capstone subject is compulsory and only available to students undertaking a major in Creative Writing. It is not available in the minor or as breadth. It is expected that students will have completed all required level 1 and level 2 subjects before enrolling in the capstone. Enrolment in the Bachelor of Arts is required.
Bachelor of Arts students should endeavour to take the capstone subject in their final semester of study after completion of 25 pts of 3rd year. See the Handbook Bachelor of Arts entry for each Discipline's requirements.
This subject is compulsory in the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Creative Writing) and enrolment in the Graduate Diploma in Arts (Creative Writing) is required.
