This subject is focussed on data driven supply chain management decisions, including data requirements for effective sourcing and procurement. Key topics will include economic order quantity and other inventory management approaches, news-vendor models, bullwhip supply models, and the use of demand forecasting approaches. Supply and demand matching will be treated using pricing, overbooking and omnichannel supply strategies. Applications will include humanitarian supply chains and health care supply.
Intended learning outcomes
After completing this subject, students will be able to:
- Evaluate the data requirements of supply chain configuration and management decisions.
- Analytically model inventory decisions such as using economic order quantity.
- Evaluate the bullwhip effect and its mitigation in supply chains.
- Understand and effect various demand forecasting models.
- Evaluate and design single and omni channel distribution networks.
- Use models to support decisions concerning supply chain sustainability.
Generic skills
- Communicate effectively about supply chain analytic models
- Build analytics models and solve these to gain managerial insights
- Effectively create written reports
- Identify and decompose business problems

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Entry into the Professional Certificate in Supply Chain Management (PR-SCM) OR
Entry into the Master of Supply Chain Management (MC-SCM150) OR
Subject Coordinator’s approval.
Note: when seeking Subject Coordinator approval you will need to meet the following criteria:
- an undergraduate degree or equivalent; AND
- a minimum of at least 3 years of full-time documented relevant professional experience; OR
- professional experience of at least 5 years of full-time documented relevant work experience.
