Students will develop the knowledge, competencies and skills necessary to perform music at a professional level. Areas to be covered include advanced study of instrumental or vocal technique in order to cope with all stylistic demands, and specialisation in all related aspects of music performance. Classes in the repertoire and materials of the instrument will also be undertaken.
In order to contextualise their education within the best practices of local, national and international standards, students are expected to work competently and productively as team members both alone and in groups: for example, participation in individual lessons, performance class, orchestral and/or related ensembles. In order to ensure the highest level of performance preparation, 100% attendance is expected.
NOTE:
To progress from Performance 3 into further practical/performance studies:
- A subject result of 65% or greater is a prerequisite for MUSI20202 Performance 4
- A subject result of 50% or greater is a prerequisite of MUSI20200 Practical Music 4
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of the subject, students should be able to:
- perform technically-based repertoire with assured musical fluency;
- conceptualise and develop solutions for advanced technical difficulties;
- evaluate and address technical demands in selected repertoire;
- respond with musical assurance and maturity to the aesthetic qualities of technical repertoire;
- develop best performance practice skills within individual group settings.
Generic skills
Students who have studied this subject should develop and enhance:
- problem-solving skills;
- skills in critical thinking and self-evaluation.
