In this subject, students will engage in a two-week study abroad period for an immersive experience involving workshops and performance opportunities in traditional and contemporary music practices. This subject is intended to broaden the students’ understanding of different generative practices as they occur in other cultures thereby expanding the musician’s palette of creative possibility.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon completion of this subject students should be able to:
- use informed listening to apply an understanding of music-making across diverse contexts;
- explain the sociocultural contexts and the sound structures of different music cultures;
- compose or improvise a piece of music utilising the international perspective and understanding of the cultural context.

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Jazz and Improvisation major of the B-MUS.
Additional Entry Requirements
Students are required to apply for permission from the coordinator to enrol into this subject prior to commencement and must have a GPA of 75% or higher. Selection will be based on this academic merit and a 500-word expression of interest as part of their application.
