Individual project in a field approved by the Course Coordinator as not otherwise available in the Conservatorium’s regular subject offerings, and for which appropriate supervision is available.
Special Study provides students with the opportunity to develop an individual project on a topic of interest under the supervision of a specialist staff member. Contact hours consist of fortnightly 1-hour meetings with a supervisor. It is recommended that prior to applying you contact potential supervisors and discuss their availability to supervise the project.
Special Study cannot be used to receive instruction on a second (minor) instrument or to develop a performance- or composition-only project.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students will be able to:
- independently analyse and solve musical problems of significant cognitive difficulty;
- show with self-confidence extensive knowledge of a specific musical subject area;
- express lucidly in writing their comprehension of complex musical concepts.
