This subject builds on the skills introduced in the subject, Principles of Paediatric Audiology. Students will continue to develop skills in the theory and practice of paediatric audiological evaluation and management. Students gain clinical experience in the behavioural assessment of the hearing of infants and children.

Intended learning outcomes

At the completion of this subject, students should be able to:



  • Differentiate through case history the physical, social, auditory, speech and language developmental stage of infants and young children
  • Apply the risk factors for hearing loss to guide clinical decision making
  • Develop clinical assessment and communication skills through differentiation of the rationale of assessment protocols of hearing from infancy across childhood
  • Integrate and interpret paediatric clinical test results to inform management planning

At the completion of this subject, students should be able to demonstrate:
• critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills
• the ability to integrate theory and practice and to apply this in novel situations
• an openness to new ideas
• planning and time management skills
• the ability to communicate their knowledge in both oral and written form
• the ability to behave in a professionally appropriate manner
