In this capstone subject students advance their exploration of the production process to become effective collaborators and independent practitioners. It combines the conceptual and technical skills learnt in Production Studios 1 to 4 as well as those learnt in Production Practice 1 and 2. Students will have the opportunity to further develop their conceptual, technical and management skills through placements in senior level production roles in the creation and realisation of live performance. In negotiation with the Subject Coordinator, students may propose and undertake a negotiated independent project of a significant scale to independently develop their conceptual, technical and management skills. Students must complete at least one production role.
NOTE: Production Practice 3 requires two consecutive study periods of enrolment. Students commence Production Practice 3 – Part A and must continue Production Practice 3 – Part B in the following study period. Upon successful completion of Production Practice 3 – Part A and Part B, students will receive 75 credit points.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of Part A and Part B, students should be able to:
- perform a senior level production role requiring conceptual, technical, managerial and collaborative skills;
- interpret and implement the roles, responsibilities and processes in the production of live performance;
- initiate safe work and best practices in technical theatre;
- integrate and implement creative processes and technical skills employed by a theatre practitioner in the realisation of live performance in a production environment;
- facilitate communication and cooperation to collaborate effectively with theatre makers and production departments to an advanced level;
- create and manage industry standard documentation relevant to the production of live performance;
- evaluate and reflect on the process and output of a placement/project and articulate insights into professional development gained from the experience.
