This subject is focussed on prescriptive analytical techniques for supply chain management, including data requirements for effective supply chain decisions. Key topics will include economic order quantity and other inventory management approaches, news-vendor models, bullwhip supply models, and the use of demand forecasting approaches. Supply and demand matching will be also treated using pricing and overbooking strategies. Applications will include some emerging topics in this area.
Intended learning outcomes
After completing this subject, students will be able to:
- Evaluate the data requirements of supply chain configuration and management decisions.
- Use models to support decisions concerning supply chain network design.
- Analytically model inventory decisions such as using economic order quantity and newsvendor frameworks.
- Evaluate and design pricing and revenue management approaches to match supply with demand.
- Evaluate the coordination problem and its mitigation in supply chains.

- Communicate effectively about supply chain analytic models
- Build analytics models and solve these to gain managerial insights
- Effectively create written reports
- Identify and decompose business problems

Eligibility and requirements
Prerequisites
Admission into one of the following:
- PR-SCM Professional Certificate in Supply Chain Management
- MC-SCM150 Master of Supply Chain Management
OR
Approval of Subject Coordinator
Note when seeking Subject Coordinator approval you will need to meet the following criteria:
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent;
- A minimum of at least 3 years of full-time documented relevant professional experience; OR professional experience of at least 5 years of full-time documented relevant work experience.
