In this subject, students further refine the skills required to achieve optimal performance in high-pressure audition situations. Students learn to apply knowledge gained in past semesters to their own preparation and performance at auditions, and practise these skills in weekly performance classes. International audition processes are considered in the development of extended excerpt lists. Students will be guided to critically reflect on the purpose of musical excerpts and concerti on audition lists.
Intended learning outcomes
Upon completion of the subject, students should be able to:
- identify, classify and explain a selected list of repertoire commonly requested at professional orchestral auditions in Australia and internationally;
- demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate musicians on a variety of instruments;
- perform confidently to a professional standard under pressure in audition, recording and performance settings;
- articulate how orchestral excerpts illustrate a variety of musical and technical skills;
- interpret and perform musical works in ways that could suit a variety of elite performance situations;
- apply mental and emotional skills required for consistent skill execution and positive performance experiences.
