Global Health
Overview
Students taking subjects from this specialisation will be trained to work in reducing global health inequity. Students will learn about common health challenges occurring across the globe, and how to work in partnership to develop innovative solutions for health inequity across low, middle- and high-income countries. Within this specialisation students have the opportunity to focus on the health of different populations (i.e. women, children, adolescents or people with a disability), and/or to focus on specific approaches to health (e.g. human rights, primary health care, or health promotion), and or to focus on specific global health issues (ie. non-communicable diseases, communicable diseases, or mental health). Possible roles in the field include government health officer, government health technical advisor, program officer, consultant technical advisor, global health researcher, community development officer. Organisations that employ people in the global health field include government ministries of health and foreign affairs, international non-government organisations, United Nations Agencies, development banks, global health, development and research consulting firms; and community-based organisations focused on health equity and development.
