Overview
The Agricultural Extension and Innovation specialisation offered within the Master of Agricultural Sciences provides students with the theory and practice of supporting change and innovation in farming communities, in agricultural sectors and value chains. The specialisation focuses on trans‐disciplinary approaches to change and innovation in the agriculture, agri‐business and natural resource management context including the management and leadership of people and material and social resources to effect change.
The specialisation develops knowledge to design, deliver and evaluate projects and programs conducted with different agricultural innovation communities and stakeholders. Developing professional capacities to work in participatory ways, communicate, facilitate and manage extension and innovation are also strong themes.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this specialisation, students should be able to:- Critically analyse the history, philosophy and policies associated with agricultural advisory services, agricultural extension and innovation in Australia and internationally
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and understanding of the human and social processes involved in agricultural change at individual and collective levels
- Knowledge and understanding of theories of agricultural innovation and the management and leadership practices associated with agricultural extension and innovation endeavours
- Plan and design projects/programs to support agricultural change and innovation
- Ability to critically evaluate agricultural change and innovation projects and programs
- Assess and apply effective knowledge transfer and communication tools and techniques for supporting agricultural change and innovation.
