Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this course, graduates should have:
- Advanced theoretical understanding and knowledge of current research, debates, policies and practices within a specialised area to identify a knowledge gap
- Advanced knowledge of educational research principles and methods to design a defensible research study
- Advanced understanding of the ethical implications of designing and conducting research investigations within an educational context and/or to address an educational problem
- Advanced cognitive and technical skills to plan and successfully execute a substantial piece of research that makes a contribution to knowledge
- Advanced written skills to present a theoretically sound and methodologically defensible research investigation
- Communication and technical skills to present a coherent and sustained argument and to disseminate research findings to the wider academic community as well as other professional practitioners
Generic skills
Graduates of the Master of Education by research will develop the following set of generic skills:

Graduate attributes
The course will develop in students a commitment to research excellence in education, allowing them to develop a critical understanding of their discipline, the process of research, and their capacities as critical, creative, competent and ethical researchers.
Graduates of the Master of Education by Research will have the necessary attributes to:
- Evaluate contemporary educational issues and educational research to inform educational practice and policies
- Contribute to discussions and debates associated with the role of educational research in addressing contemporary local, national and global issues
- Be creative, innovative, self directed and lifelong learners, able to link theory and practice and respond to the changing educational landscape (integrity and self awareness)
