The Master of Theatre (Screen Acting) aims to provide practice-based training for qualified candidates to expand their skills in becoming transformative actors on screen and to develop the potential for artistic leadership as performance makers, collaborators, and researchers. The course is built upon core principles of: intellectual rigour, commitment to craft, artistic inquiry, self-reflection, ethical practices, interdisciplinarity and artform innovation. During the course students will refine their screen acting skills at a master’s level and define a professional pathway that will aim to have a meaningful impact on the film, television, commercial and streaming profession.
Students will establish themselves as multifaceted autonomous artist-actors: actor as interpreter, actor as collaborator, and actor as producer. The course offers a balance of theory, interdisciplinary practice, and departmental collaborations organised to allow for a progression from an intensively taught, skills-based first year to a more autonomous project-orientated second year.
Students will work exclusively with digital screening projects both in studio and on location. Students will also train and collaborate with students from Directing, Writing, Voice, Dramaturgy and Film.
The course culminates with students producing digital portfolio reels that position their market aesthetic, industry branding and media outreach, showcasing their performances on screen: acting, voice acting, motion capture, and combat for camera.
Master of Theatre (Screen Acting) graduates will establish themselves as world artist citizens within the international professional film, television, and streaming markets.
