Students will be required to submit three assignments of between 3,000 and 3,500 words each, on dates specified at the start of the academic year. The word count includes bibliography, footnotes, appendices and the number of words which would take up space used for tables, formulae and charts.
Intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Be able to work independently on prescribed topics in actuarial studies;
- Identify the bibliographic and data sources relevant to the topics;
- Analyse the literature relevant to the topics;
- Apply appropriate actuarial and quantitative methods of analysis;
- Complete written research reports.

- This subject continues over two consecutive study periods, with students first enrolling in ACTL40010 and then subsequently enrolling in ACTL40011 for a total enrolment of 25 credit points. Students will receive an overall result for the subject following completion of the two-subject sequence.
