This subject provides an overview of the production process in order for students to collaborate in an effective manner with theatre makers and production departments in the creation of live performance.
This will include undertaking introductory modules in Design, Stage Management, Set and Props, Costume, Lighting, and Sound.
Students will be introduced to basic digital and analogue techniques of visual representation including hand drawing, model making and computer aided drafting.
Through studio-based classes students will learn the basic principles of production, and basic techniques for employing them in the context of live performance.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- employ fundamental technical skills in Design, Stage Management, Set and Props, Costume, Lighting, and Sound for live performance;
- demonstrate fundamental skills in digital and analogue techniques of visual representation to communicate concepts and technical specifications for live performance;
- identify the roles, responsibilities and processes necessary in the production of live performance in a studio environment;
- collaborate effectively with theatre makers and production departments in the production of live performance;
- recognise and adhere to safe work and best practices in technical theatre.

- Work as part of a team to achieve a common goal;
- communicate effectively, in oral, written and digital forms;
- employ a wide range of idea creation techniques.
