This subject introduces professional pathways for emerging artists and best practice protocols and current trends in the independent sector. Through seminars and panel discussions with invited industry professionals, students will acquire knowledge of trends and protocols of professional practice to support their careers as performers and theatre-makers.
Current opportunities and pathways for emerging artists are explored both at a state and national level. An awareness of the multifaceted nature of the industry will be developed and students will then apply this knowledge to their own professional development plan. Working in groups, students will interact with industry professionals to identify creative opportunities and professional development pathways while sustaining a professional working ethos.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- identify and evaluate current opportunities and pathways relevant to individual career aspirations;
- propose a professional development plan relevant to career aspirations;
- develop a project or residency proposal to industry standards;
- employ and sustain a professional working ethos in independent and collaborative tasks and in communication with staff, industry and peers.
