This subject will develop participants’ skills in using student achievement data to inform teaching practice to support student learning. It will consider the use of a wide range of data types and sources to evaluate learning, teaching and assessment and make recommendations for improving practice. Through case studies and practical activities, participants will be exposed to ideas, methods and techniques to support high quality, evidence-based decision making.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, participants should be able to:
- Identify evidence suitable to the purpose
- Determine relevant and ethical methods of data collection, storage and recording
- Use approaches and tools to analyse and interpret data within a clinical teaching cycle
- Use the interpretation of data to test hypotheses and inform decisions within clinical practice
- Differentiate teaching based on the interpretation of data
- Synthesise multiple sources of data and use them to evaluate the impact of teaching
- Evaluate the limitations of evidence in both practice and research
Generic skills
- Analytical skills and the ability to construct and express logical arguments.
- Capacity to critique and use appropriately a range of evidence and data.
- Problem solving skills, including engaging with, researching and identifying strategies to solve unfamiliar problems.
