This subject is an introduction to storytelling for animation. Students undertake foundation exercises in story analysis, idea generation and concept development that will lead into creating and developing a screenplay and a storyboard for short animated films. Screenings, discussions and creative challenges take place in each class.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- investigate and develop original ideas suitable for an animation production;
- evaluate and employ the fundamentals of story structure for an animated short film;
- critique animated films, screenplays and storyboards;
- apply professional technical standards to a draft screenplay;
- demonstrate key shot standards and sequence structures in a storyboard;
- evaluate feedback to reflect on story drafts for animation.
