Topic selected in consultation with coordinator and supervisor. Enrolment in the thesis is across two consecutive semesters and students must enrol in the subject in each semester to ensure they are meeting the full 50 point requirement for the year-long subject.
Intended learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this subject will:
- gain experience in research in Indigenous Studies.
Generic skills
At the completion of this subject, students should gain the following generic skills:
- a sophisticated understanding of the role of theory in Australian Indigenous Studies;
- the ability to undertake high-level individual research; and
- a developed understanding of the ethical requirements of research in Australian Indigenous Studies.

Students enrolled in the thesis must also complete Research Principles and Practices (may be undertaken concurrently).

Hurdle requirement: This subject has a minimum requirement of (or at least) 80% attendance at tutorials, seminars, or workshops. There is an expectation that students attend lectures, in person or via online delivery. All pieces of assessment must be submitted to pass this subject. For the purposes of meeting this hurdle requirement, each submitted assessment must be complete and constitute a genuine attempt to address the requirements of the task. This subject is taught over two consecutive semesters. Total time commitment for the subject is approximately 680 hours, inclusive of two semesters (thesis Part 1 and Part 2)
Additional delivery details
This is part of a 50 point thesis subject, continuing over two consecutive study periods.
Students are required to enrol in:
- INDG40003 Australian Indigenous Thesis Part 1 (25 points) and
- INDG40004 Australian Indigenous Thesis Part 2 (25 points), consecutively.
Students will receive a ‘CNT’ grade in the part 1 and results will be entered if and when both part 1 and 2 are completed.
