This subject will provide advanced knowledge for echocardiography interpretation in patients with adult congenital, obstetric, and unusual medical conditions.

Topics include:

  • Transthoracic echocardiography in children
  • Atrial defects
  • Ventricular defects
  • Valvular defects
  • Defects of the great vessels
  • Congenital defects that present in adults
  • Assessment of congenital defects after surgery
  • Case reports - 25 cases

Intended learning outcomes

The completion of the subject, students should:

  • Learn about adult congenital heart disease and echocardiography evaluation
  • Understand the management of adult congenital heart disease
  • Understand the effect of pregnancy on the cardiovascular system
  • Learn how pregnancy affect cardiac disease
  • Learn echocardiography features of severe pre-eclampsia
  • Understand the approach of incorporating ultrasound into the assessment of post-delivery cardiovascular emergencies
  • Learn the pathology and echocardiography features of cardiomyopathy
  • Learned the power quality and echocardiography features of cardiac tumours
  • Understand how to differentiate pericardial disease states
  • Learn the cardiac pathology and echocardiography interpretation associated with systemic disease states
  • Interpret 25 case studies.
