Given the international travel restrictions due to COVID-19, this subject will be delivered virtually in 2022.
In this fully online subject, students will engage in workshops and performance opportunities in traditional and contemporary music practices.
This subject is intended to broaden the students’ understanding of different generative practices as they occur in other cultures thereby expanding the musician’s palette of creative possibility.
This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Jazz and Improvisation major of the B-MUS.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- use informed listening to apply an understanding of music-making across diverse contexts;
- explain the sociocultural contexts and the sound structures of different music cultures;
- compose or improvise a piece of music utilising the international perspective and understanding of the cultural context.

Prerequisites
Admission into the Jazz & Improvisation major in the B-MUS Bachelor of Music
AND
GPA of 75% or higher
AND
500-word expression of interest
