In this subject, students will engage in a two-week intensive study abroad period for an immersive experience involving workshops and performance opportunities in traditional and contemporary music practices.
This subject is intended to broaden the students’ understanding of different generative practices as they occur in other cultures thereby expanding the musician’s palette of creative possibility.
This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Jazz and Improvisation major of the B-MUS Bachelor of Music.
Overseas Travel
In this subject, students will engage in an intensive study abroad experience and costs in addition to tuition fees may be incurred. Students may be eligible for financial assistance, or the Overseas Help Loan (OS-HELP Loans).
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- use informed listening to apply an understanding of music-making across diverse contexts;
- explain the sociocultural contexts and the sound structures of different music cultures;
- compose or improvise a piece of music utilising the international perspective and understanding of the cultural context.

Prerequisites
Admission into the Jazz & Improvisation major in the B-MUS Bachelor of Music
AND
GPA of 75% or higher
AND
500-word expression of interest
