Korean 5 is suitable for students who have successfully completed Korean 4 or who possess an equivalent level of Korean language proficiency. The subject aims to improve written and spoken skills in formal and professional settings, and to broaden linguistic exposure to various socio-cultural contexts. Students will have opportunities to practice upper-intermediate language functions, and to be able to communicate on a wide range of topics in politics, economy, and society. They will acquire Sino-Korean idioms, proverbs and newly-coined terms in contemporary Korea.
Through class activities, students will master to utilise various forms of multimedia and web contents. In addition, students will develop interpersonal skills and cultural awareness to understand others and to present themselves appropriately in cross-cultural situations.
Intended learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
- Demonstrate essential language skills and upper-intermediate grammatical structures in Korean
- Deploy intermediate to advanced vocabulary relating to wide socio-cultural context
- Conduct conversations about business-related topics in formal speech styles
- Produce written critical and analytic texts and examine rhetorical structures
- Develop a differentiated understanding of social context to reflect self and others
- Demonstrate understanding about key contemporary cultures, politics and social issues of Korea
- Demonstrate knowledge about the regional diversity and cross-cultural exchanges.

Students who successfully complete this subject should be able to:
