Entry requirements
1. In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed:
• a four-year education degree, or equivalent; or
• an undergraduate degree in any discipline and at least 50 credit points, or equivalent, of graduate study in education or in the relevant discipline to the proposed topic of research.
AND
• a weighted average mark of at least H2A (75%), or equivalent.
Meeting this entry requirements does not guarantee selection.
2. In ranking applications, the Selection Committee will consider:
• prior academic performance.
3. The Selection Committee may seek further information to clarify any aspect of an application in accordance with the Academic Board rules on the use of selection instruments.
4. Applicants must meet the University’s English language requirements.
The University welcomes applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Indigenous Australians who are not otherwise selected will be admitted if the Selection Committee determines that they are likely to succeed in the course. Indigenous applicants are encouraged to contact Murrup Barak for support in preparing their application.
Note:
a) Successful applicants who have previously completed subject(s) that comprise the 960BA's compulsory coursework component (as part of another University of Melbourne degree) may be eligible to apply for advanced standing for the relevant subject(s), per the Credit, Advanced Standing and Accelerated Entry Policy.
b) The granting of advanced standing for the full 50-credit points of 960BA compulsory coursework subjects is conditional upon:
- Achievement of a weighted average mark of at least H2A (75%) across the 50-credit points of completed subjects; and
- The support of a principal supervisor for the thesis.
Inherent requirements (core participation requirements)
The Faculty of Education welcomes applications from students with disabilities. The core participation requirements for study in the Faculty of Education are:
In all courses
1. The ability to comprehend complex information related to education and the disciplines in which the student is teaching.
2. The ability to communicate clearly and independently in assessment tasks a knowledge of the content, principles and practices relating to education and other relevant disciplines.
3. Behavioural and social attributes that enable a student to participate in a complex learning environment. Students are required to take responsibility for their own participation and learning. They also contribute to the learning of other students in collaborative learning environments, demonstrating interpersonal skills and an understanding of the needs of other students. Assessment may include the outcomes of tasks completed in collaboration with other students.
