This subject will introduce students to the principles of research and methodologies. Students will have the opportunity to develop a research proposal in an area of interest related to dental, oral, and craniofacial research. This subject will provide students with the practical knowledge required to plan a research project including the process and requirements of ethics approval and basic concepts for data analysis. This subject builds on the foundation level research methods knowledge and skills from their prior studies in DENT90142 Professional Practice 1.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Describe the principles of evidence-based practice in relation to individuals (dental practice) and communities (health promotion)
- Describe ethical research practices
- Integrate knowledge of study design and data analysis to source and evaluate information to answer questions
- Develop rigorous, researchable questions based on their knowledge of study design and analysis of trends in information/data
- Effectively communicate research findings
