This subject addresses the ways in which assessment data can be used to improve learning. The benefits and challenges of using data-driven decision making in a range of educational contexts are examined. The valid use of assessment and other sources of data to improve learning at individual, class, organisation, and system level are explored, as well as policies, processes and practices which support such uses.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Critically reflect on theory and practice in the ethical and valid use of data to inform learning decisions
- Identify and critique a range of data sources to inform ethical and valid decision making in teaching and learning
- Design practices for using data to improve learning within a range of contexts
- Formulate a data plan to drive data-informed policy development and/or practice within an educational context including ethical assessment for diverse stakeholder groups
