This subject explores the responsibilities for all educators to understand and address First Nations’ knowledges, cultures, and experiences of education, taking account of the importance of connections to place and Country. Students will critically reflect on past and present experiences of racism, settler colonialism and epistemic injustice in different international contexts to develop understandings of equity and justice in relation to colonialism and its persistent influence on education. Through examining Australian and international Indigenous and anti-colonial movements, students will develop an understanding of education that addresses place, land, and the important role of Indigenous peoples and knowledges in tackling contemporary challenges for education for sustainability.
