Korean Culture through Film and Drama provides a comprehensive understanding of the diachronic developments inherent to Korean culture in the 20th and 21st centuries through the lens of films, dramas and other media such as webtoons, short stories, etc. It applies theoretical tools adopted within Korean Studies to analyse how Korean culture and identity are narrated, represented, constructed, and performed through these media. This subject explores a range of Korean cultural media well beyond those of contemporary pop-culture, and examines the relationship between Korean culture, its dynamic developments, and its representation, while at the same time touching important concepts such as cultural nationalism, identity, invented traditions, social inequality, gender dynamics, aesthetics, and beauty.
