This subject is designed for students to undergo extensive research training with their own individually supervised research project in basic, translational, or clinical science supervised by academics and clinicians affiliated with Western Health.
Students will undertake an original research project in basic, translational or clinical science in facilities based in the Western Centre for Health, Research and Education (WCHRE) located within the Sunshine Hospital precinct as well as affiliated hospitals at Footscray and Williamstown.
The Department of Western Health promotes a bench-to-bedside-and-back philosophy focused on the clinical applications of our discoveries, while also testing new proofs of principle and applications to well-known medications and therapies. Being part of a clinical hospital site, students will also learn about the broader significance of research translation as it relates to human health and disease, and how research can change and improve the clinical management of patients.
Many of the available projects offer the opportunity of progression on to higher degrees including a PhD.
