In this subject, students will critically evaluate the principles of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), including an assessment of the role of perioperative ultrasound, the team-based approach to the entire patient journey and the components of care at each stage. Students will critically evaluate the concept of ERAS, its intraoperative and postoperative considerations for multiple different types of surgeries and the role of clinical ultrasound within its framework.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this subject, students should be able to:
- Evaluate the concept of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS)
- Critique the intraoperative and post-operative considerations for ERAS and the role of perioperative ultrasound
- Critique ERAS considerations for multiple different types of surgery and the role of perioperative ultrasound
- Assess the quality audit cycle for ERAS programs
