General Practice and Primary Care

Intended learning outcomes

Graduates of the General Practice and Primary Care  Honours program will be able to:

• Explain the role of fundamental and applied health research in addressing real-world primary care challenges.
• Apply critical and analytical skills to the identification and resolution of problems that arise in the conduct of primary care research.
• Demonstrate proficiency in accessing, searching and summarising published research in primary care.
• Demonstrate expertise in all aspects of research design, including selection of populations, sampling approaches, data collection methods and analysis.
• Demonstrate skills in conducting research, including selection of populations, sampling approach, data collection methods and analysis.
• Articulate scientific explanations of primary care concepts, theories and research findings, and communicate these ideas effectively to various audiences in both written and oral formats.
• Apply principles of intellectual integrity and the ethics of scholarship, including identifying and following the principles of ethical conduct of research with humans.
• Demonstrate proficiency in time management for completion of scientific tasks against set deadlines.
• Work effectively independently, and collaboratively under supervision within a research team from diverse backgrounds.
