Intended learning outcomes
- Demonstrate skills to support future study or employment including self-directed learning, organisational skills, and time-management
- Have developed and be able to apply technical and theoretical knowledge and skills from at least one area of scientific study
- Articulate the methods of science and explain why current scientific knowledge is both contestable and testable by further inquiry
- Apply appropriate scientific practices including considerations of sustainability, ethics, safety and risk management, to problems in science, mathematics, technology and/or engineering
- Effectively search for, evaluate, manage and use information to support scientific investigation or scholarly debate
- Articulate the relationships between different ways of knowing including those maintained within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities – or First Nations communities globally - and their ongoing role in the development of science today
- Understand the role of science, mathematics, technology, and/or engineering in addressing current issues facing local and global communities
- Work effectively in a team to achieve a shared goal with people whose disciplinary and cultural backgrounds differ from their own
- Communicate clearly and professionally about science and/or technological ideas and practices to a range of audiences, matching the mode of communication to their audience and purpose
Generic skills
- Self-Management Skills: demonstrates self-efficacy through an ability to organise time and tasks, set and achieve personal goals, and learn independently.
- Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: critically evaluates information and can apply their understanding of scientific concepts and methods to novel situations.
- Ethical and Sustainable Practice: applies ethical standards and sustainability considerations in their work.
- Intercultural Competence and Teamwork: the ability to work effectively in diverse teams and engage with different cultural perspectives, including those of First Nations communities.
- Communication Skills: clearly and effectively communicates information and ideas as relevant to the audience and purpose.
